GFI Hive, Finance Earth & The Crown Estate launch Marine & Coastal Investment Readiness Toolkit Consultation

Nov 25 2025 – The Green Finance Institute, in partnership with Finance Earth and The Crown Estate, has today published initial guidance for a new Marine and Coastal Natural Capital Projects Investment Readiness Toolkit and opened it for consultation. Announced at the Ecosystems Knowledge Network Nature Finance UK Conference, this guidance marks the first step toward the development of an interactive Toolkit designed to help project developers build impactful and investible marine and coastal natural capital projects to be launched March 2026.

Drawing on High Integrity Marine Natural Capital Markets in the UK: A Roadmap for Action and adapted from GFI Hive’s Investment Readiness Toolkit, the guidance outlines eight practical milestones for developing investment-ready marine and coastal projects – from early scoping and stakeholder engagement through to financial modelling, governance structures, risk management and closing transactions. With the UK’s marine and coastal ecosystems contributing an estimated £47bn to the economy yet facing escalating pressures from climate change, pollution and habitat loss, this initiative aims to help unlock new sources of finance for their protection and restoration.

The partners are inviting stakeholders to contribute feedback, tools, templates and case studies that can strengthen the final Toolkit. Project developers, corporates and investors engaged in marine natural capital projects are encouraged to review the guidance and respond to the consultation survey.
